Sunglasses Hooks

After remixing an air vent hook for water bottles, I thought that we should have a place to hang our sunglasses.  I tried to figure out a good way to integrated it on the water bottle hook, but nothing really felt like it wouldn't get in the way of the water bottle hook itself, so I decided to just make this dedicated hook.

The hook fits pretty tight so that you can pull your sunglasses out hopefully without the hook falling out too.  Rivian doesn't make it easy here.  I've found that if you slide the hook toward the edge where the vent starts to curve it will lock in place even tighter.

While I personally like the vent hook, we found it can end up feeling cluttered with sunglasses and a water bottle hanging in that area, so I modeled up a visor clip to try out.  The model is a lot like all the others out there, but this one is designed specifically to match the profile of the Rivian visors and provide a nice firm grip.

Printing

The following print settings are what's included in the .3mf.

• General
  • I used 0.4mm nozzle with default 0.2mm layers.
  • I used 3 perimeters.
  • I used 15% gyroid infill.
  • Print on the side for maximum strength.
• Vent Hook
  • Use supports.  “Snug” seems to release very cleanly.
  • PETG seems fine for this one.  ASA would also be great.
  • If you want to use TPU, there's a specific model for that so that it holds a bit better.
• Visor Hook
  • ASA recommended.  PETG mostly works, but does deform over time (see photo).
  • I used “helper discs” or mouse ears to help with bed adhesion.  I only needed them when I switched from PETG to ASA.  YMMV.  They're included in the .3mf.
• Vent Hook Insert
  • Print with TPU/Flex materials
  • Use vase mode.  Ignore any warnings about stability issues.
