Description

There are lots of great filament centerers/holders out there but, for my personal use, in a filament box, they usually have some kind of flaw.

So, I decided to design mine and address them:

  • The design Is parametric. You just have to open the Solidworks file and change the "inner_diameter" to the one of your spool. The one of the stl is for a eSun spool, as seen in the pictures.
  • It's pretty efficient. It uses very little filament and prints very fast. So you can print as many as you want in case you use several spools.
  • Some designs rely only on friction to keep the centerer inside the spool, being prone to be difficult to insert or so loose that it ends up sliping out. In this one you have three screws that keep both sides together, so it doesn't matter if it's too lose, it will never slip out and increases reusability. The screws will depend on the width of your spool. In the eSun I used 3 M4x70. You can change the diameter of the screw in the file as well.
  • Besides, it won't matter if the center of the spool is irregular.
  • The bearing is the typical 608zz, so you'll need an 8mm rod. And it inserts tightly. You'll probably need to heat the plastic, use the deburring tool and strike it in two or three times. The bearing will not come out unless you heat it again.
