Description
I picked up an older model Easy Weaver loom at a second hand shop, but it was missing quite a few pieces, including a shuttle. They are generally made out of a wood species such as beech, which is hard to find around here. In addition, other woods hard enough would cost me more than I paid for the loom. I have also found that replacement parts online are generally cheap and poorly made. This is where the 3d printer comes in.
These shuttles are similar to, but not exact copies of, the stick shuttles that come with the Schacht Cricket, Kromski Presto, Glimakra Emilia, and Beka and Ashford rigid heddle looms.
Here is a set of two different shuttle designs, and four different sizes of each. It originally came with a smaller shuttle, but my wife felt a larger shuttle makes more sense for the size loom we have. I also know that many people prefer more the shuttle style that comes with an Ashford. 3D printing allows for a wider open area than wooden shuttles that are prone to snap so these have been designed with this in mind. The edges have a slight fillet, enough to be smooth but small enough to print easily. You will find
They are 5mm (approx. 3/8") thick. The openings for the yarn are larger than is typical as well. I may add design updates in the future (especially if you request one in the comments), but for now this is the design that seems to work.
3MF and STL files are available.
