Description
I was unhappy with the original mount system of my Kryptonite Mini-5 U-Slot.
This replaces the aluminium slot on the shackle to insert the lock into its mount.
The part is a first attempt to test for durability. I will report in a few month after using it daily.
I managed to fit it with friction fit (after freezing the lock in the freezer).. I don't think this will ever move, even without the set screw! (unless it breaks!)
I still plan to add the set screw with a heat insert later on, the hole is already there in the model.
You may need to sand the hole to get it to fit perfectly. I had to install the part using a block of wood and a mallet.
The result is a part much more snug than the original, which prevent the lock from moving and eventually loosen the mount over time. I just tried it on a ride, and now the bike is much more silent as the lock is not moving around anymore.
Printed in PCTG in 0.4 with 6 walls
UPDATE May 2024- A few months later, it is still working great. Still the original one I printed. Still holding tight. This allowed to completely get rid of the lock vibrations. Sliding the lock in its mount is much more tight than the original piece.
UPDATE Oct 2024 - Today the PCTG version broke. I reprinted in Nylon which should last longer.
UPDATE Jan 2025 - The Nylon part without any carbon or glass fiber deformed, making it annoying to use. Reprinted in Polycarbonate… So far so good.. Maybe it is time to look into glass fiber filaments.. will see…
Feedback always most welcome.
