Description

An extended version of the 2 Bay 3.5" HDD Cage made by @MattHope, because 2 bays weren't enough for me and I found this design nice. Keep in mind that general print time is 2-3 days.

The dimensions of the HDD cage are:

LxWxH = 160x(Base: 151 & Cage: 121)x169 mm

The walls are 3mm thick and the caddy rails slots are 7.7mm or 0.3".

Caddy:

For me the distance between my drives was top to bottom 18.5mm and 15.5mm from top to bottom of the caddy. More than enough space for airflow.

You can use this caddy that matches the pattern: https://www.printables.com/model/40826-35-generic-hdd-caddy

The same one with 3 screw holes: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5155083

Toolless caddy: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5192729

I personally recommend the 3.5" Generic Caddy by Squirtle: https://www.printables.com/model/40826-35-generic-hdd-caddy

Update 25/02/2025: I have noticed that the caddies tend to be hard to pinch in so I would not go higher than 15% infill density on them, perhaps even 10% infill density but I haven't personally tested that.

I recommend to print with the following settings:

Print instructions

  • Material: PETG Recommended, But PLA(+) works too.
  • Infill: 30-50%
  • Supports: HIGHLY Recommended. Use ≤10% support infill. Normal Structure is advised.
  • Adhesion: Use a Brim of 300mm and I recommend using glue too, because of how tall the print is.
  • Printing Speed: ≤50 mm/s. This figure holds for most printers, but high-end printers might be able to print faster.
  • Resolution: 0.2 or 0.16 if you want to go fancy.
  • Nozzle Diameter: Printed with 0.4mm, 0.6mm will also work.
