Usage

Lens Adapter for Lens Filter

Lens filters are the Photoshop of analog photography. With filters you can get more out of your instant pictures and the 39.0 and 40.5 mm adapter helps you to use various lens filters from DSLR camera lenses for the Polarid Now.

Just screw the filter into the appropriate adapter and place the adapter on the lens of the Polaroid instant camera.

For example, you can use the following filters:

  • UV Filter
e.g UV Lens Filter with 39mm thread

In contrast to digital cameras, where UV filters are used to protect the lens from scratches and dust, UV filters actually make sense for film cameras. Ultraviolet (UV) or haze filters are used on film cameras to reduce the amount of haze and UV light reaching the film. Ultraviolet light, while invisible to the naked eye, affects the exposure of color film by reducing contrast and potentially discoloring the final photograph. Color films consist of three color-sensitive layers - red, green and blue. The blue layer is not only sensitive to blue light, but also to UV light. So if a lot of UV light enters, the blue-sensitive film layer will be overexposed, giving the final image a blue cast.

  • CPL Filter
e.g.: CPL Lens Filter with 39 mm thread

Polarizing filters (CPL filters) can be used to easily remove unwanted reflections from a scene and enhance the contrasts of an image.

  • ND-Filter
e.g: Adjustable Neutral Density Filter 9-400 with 40.5 mm thread
The main function of ND filters is to reduce the amount of light that reaches the film or shooting area. This allows longer exposure times without overexposing the image. ND filters are available in different strengths, which are expressed in "f-stops" or "steps". The higher the f-stop of the filter, the more the light is reduced.

  • Makro-Filter (e.g.: Close-up lens filter with 40.5 mm thread)
  • Color Filters (e.g.: Color lens filter with 40.5 mm thread)
  • Step-Up Adapter for more Lens Filter (e.g. Step-Up Adapter from 40.5 to 55 mm thread)
  • and more.

Dual Exposure Quarter Aperture (Splitzer)

Active Dual Exposure Mode

The Polaroid Now has the option of double exposure. To activate the double exposure mode, press the self-timer twice.  In this mode, the red release button can be pressed and the film exposed twice until the instant picture is ejected.

The 7-segment display on the back, which normally shows the number of remaining photos, indicates that double exposure mode is active by flashing 1.

When the shutter release button is pressed, the photo is exposed for the first time and the display changes to 2. Pressing the shutter release button again will expose the photoagain and the camera will eject the photo.  The flash can be switched on or off for each individual exposure using the "flash button".

Use Splitzer

The splitzer adapter is used to cover half of the lens so that the covered part of the image is underexposed. After the exposure, the adapter is rotated 180° and the image is exposed again.

The double exposure creates a cross-fade effect. For example, you can appear as two people in a photo, insert ghostly objects into an image or cross-fade from one image into another.
