Description

I modified the V2 BentoBox base to add space for hidden electronics and wiring. One version is just an open space for electronics and wiring and the other has a place to put a small OLED display (look for 0.91 I2C OLED). The OLED version has a slanted back for attaching the PCB without bending the ribbon cable too much.

There is also a wire hole to run the power wires along the back side.

I also changed the heat insert holes to have a sightly smaller diameter and a 6mm depth.

I can post the code at a later date, but I rigged up a simple project that controls the fan based on the TVOC value from a Sparkfun ENS160/BME280 dev board. I also used some 4 wire 4028 fans, so I have full PWM/Speed control. I am using a Teensy 4.0 for my project and was able to mount it between the fans on the underside of the standard fan box. So far it works reasonably well, the TVOC measurement is lower than I would have expected, only about 100-200 ppb for ABS prints. This is enough to enable the fans, it also has temperature and humidity so I added that info to the screen as well.

Parts Used:

  • Teensy 4.0 (Warning 3.3V only)
  • Small Buck Regulator 12V→5V
  • Sparkfun Environmental Combo Breakout - ENS160/BME280
  • 0.91 Inch I2C OLED SSD1306 Driver
  • Perf board fan adapters (1: Ground, 2: +12V, 3: Tach (not used), and 4: PWM needs a 3.3V zener to protect the MCU from the fans 12V pullup) http://www.pavouk.org/hw/fan/en_fan4wire.html
