🇮🇪 Fáilte go hÉirinn! ☘
Welcome to Ireland!

This model was created by Dany Sánchez .

The Rock of Cashel (Irish: Carraig Phádraig), also known as Cashel of the Kings and St. Patrick's Rock, is a historical site located at Cashel, County Tipperary, Ireland.

This historical medieval building, nowadays a tourist attraction, was the traditional seat of the kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman invasion. In 1101, King Muirchertach Ua Briain, donated his fortress on the Rock to the Church. The site features some of the best Celtic art and medieval architecture in Europe. Few remnants of the early structures survive; the majority of buildings on the current site date from the 12th and 13th centuries.

Notable features:

  1. The oldest section is the tall round tower, dating from 1011.
  2. Cormac's Chapel was begun in 1127 and consecrated in 1134, it is the German-style misaligned building.
  3. The cathedral, built between 1235 and 1270, has no aisles and is shaped like a cross.
  4. On the west end there is a residential castle, its walls have suffered the most damage.
  5. Around 1735, the main cathedral roof was destroyed.
  6. St. Patrick's Cross, located near the southern entrance, was built in the 12th century in Latin style, unlike other Celtic crosses. It had two pillars supporting the crossbar, much like a 3D print!
  7. It contains many graves and crosses, both within the walls and outside.
