Description
The quest 3 is a quite compact VR device, especially for those coming from a Reverb G2 like me. For those who use it to fly in DCS World with pointCTRL (the infrared finger mouse system - https://pointctrl.com/pointctrl-kits-2/), it can be quite difficult to find a place where to attach the optional auxiliary push buttons (APBs). This project is a very simple but efficient way to do so, designed for those who use the Elite strap (or a similar aftermarket headstrap): a 3d printed part to accomodate the APBs, with a slit to be inserted in the upper band of the elite strap. Some very cheap double-sided velcro (like this Velcro® Brand Hook and Loop ONE-WRAP® - Reggiatura bifacciale, 25 mm di larghezza, 1 m : Amazon.it: Fai da te) is glued with superglue: one side on the upper surface of the 3d printed part and the other side on the back of the APBs. In this way when the quest 3 is weared on and the elite strap adjusted, the 3d printed part with buttons attached is supported by the head itself, and you can easily push the buttons when needed (night vision goggle or integrated helmet aiming system on/off are the best assignments IMHO). The reason of the velcro is that, if you change your headset and need to adapt or remove the 3d printed part, you can recover your APBs without having them glued on the plastic. Another advantage is that if you use the quest3 for standalone VR other than DCS, you can easily remove the APBs by sliding them out of the elite strap upper band. If you attach the head mounted sensor on the quest 3 with a double sided adhesive velcro (like this UKOFEW adesivo forte,Biadesivo,Nastro Biadesivo per Tessuti Hook Loop ,per Lavori di Casa, fai da te, Lavori Manuali,Portafoto ,Tende ,moquette, cuscini per divani, pedaliera : Amazon.it: Casa e cucina – I would avoid to use superglue directly on the quest 3), you can easily and effortlessly remove all of the pointCTRL from the quest 3 for when you don't need it (especially with standalone VR games). The plastic part must be printed vertically, with brim. Mine is printed in PETG, 40% infill.
