Description

Whenever there is need for quick sign your fresh instaphoto from Polaroid - this box got you covered. Did you ever want to sign and decorate your photo just now and didn't have neither place nor tools to do so? With that box it is quite easy!

Handy drawer style shelf is designed for most common Polaroid photo size (10.752 x 8.847 cm). External dimensions of the box: 130x105x42mm (35mm without the notch)

  • This box contains:
    • 2 independent compartments, for photos and for tools
    • shelf for securing the photo
    • templates for pen contour decoration

  • How to use:
  1. Open the box by pulling the cyllinder style lever.
  2. Under the shelf you will find nice compartment for all the templates you need to make your photo very unique.
  3. After inserting the photo, retract the shelf and sign your photo with pen (not included).
You can use the few simple templates attached in the file or design something not from this world -  it is totally up to you.
  4. Open the box again and take your photo out - you may find round holes underneath very helpful in that.
  5. Share the photo or hide it in storage compartment you will find beneath the small cover on the front.
  • A couple of notes:

This is my first attempt at snap lock design for 3D printing, any comments very welcome!

The box is not yet tested in real life, so if you have any troubles assembling/using or you want to improve the design - don't hesitate to comment and share!

Tolerances for the connections, especially for cover of photo compartment is quite tight - make sure it fits - if not sandpaper is your friend. Alternatively you can scale down the small cover just a bit. Shelf for photo should have at least 1.5mm gap each side, however i do not have the Polaroid and couldn't test that in real life - I assume official dimensions from [https://support.polaroid.com/hc/en-us/articles/115012363647-What-are-Polaroid-photo-dimensions] are accurate. Photo on first two renders comes from that site also.

  • Printing and assembling tips:
    1. Glue required - preferably CA, to join top frame with main box. Small notches help aligning the top cover. DO NOT GLUE BEFORE INSERTING THE DRAWER.
If you don't like the glue and prefer screws - I will add this option later on demand. Comment if you need this option. I will test first the perfect hole size for the screws.
    2. Orientation of parts for printing - look into the step files or decide yourself. Generally:
-top cover - upside down (chamfer to the plate)
-photo compartment cover - you may try printing on top surface (thin) but it may not work. Alternatively try with small notch upwards and add supports on both sides.
-rest - as shown on pictures.
    3. Supports - not needed except the cover for photo compartment. Not much, but better be prepared for some additional work.
    4. Infill - recommended 20%
    5. Any material as long as you won't expose it to direct sunlight in summer. Consider PETG or ASA/ABS if you will use it outside in direct sunlight. Bright colors also help with keeping the prints temperature down in sun exposed places.

If you used this file and/or find this design helpful - please share your thoughts (photo of your print will be warmly welcomed) with me, so I can make better and more designs.
Thank you!

P.S. You really read all that, I'm impressed!
