Tabletop Miniature Tray (Bushido, Moonstone, Warmachine,....)

Disclaimer

This design uses a series of clamping mechanisms to hold your models in place. The functionality of these greatly depend on the print settings, used material and so on. Further down I give some intructions on how to print this, but every printer is different and you might need to alter the design to make it work. For example adjust the Cushion element. Test the fit before you take your modells on a downhill ride! You print and use this at your own risk!

Overview

The holder is designed for standard 30 and 40 mm bases with a holder for 50mm bases to come. I tested it using Bushido Minis but Warmachine, Guild Ball and Moonstone miniatures should work as well. 

The Base Holders hold onto the Base Plate with a compliant mechanism and a lock and key formfit. You can mix and match the base holders on the plate to fit your need. Maximum is either 14x30 mm or 10x40mm bases. 

I use it in the following sequence:

1. Configure the Plate with the necessary Base Holders
2. Stick your magnetised miniatures onto the Base Holders
3. Use the Bridge to clamp all miniatures to the plate

There are 2  Versions for the Holders as well as the cushion. One with felt and one without. The Holders definitely will chip the paint on the base rim and I would advise to use felt to prevent that. Maybe if you print it with a softer material it might work.

 For the TPU - Bridge I am not  sure but nevertheless I designed one to use with felt.

• 2x M3x6 Countersunk head screw (Din 7991) for the Brackets
• M3 Screws to fix the base plate to your box (Length Depends on your box I used DIN 912 M3x4 )
• For each Small Base Holder: DIN9021 M8
• For each Medium Base Holder: DIN9021 M12
• Optional: Felt ca. 1mm thickness
• Glue: I used "UHU-Alleskleber" which is basically an all purpose glue which dries a bit soft. Don't use superglue (glue based on cyanacrylate) because it will sift through the felt and dry hard thus defying the purpose of the felt

Print Instructions

• The STLs already have the correct print orientation
• Everything except the cushion
  • I printed everything with PETG but PLA should work as well
  • 4 Shell Parameters 
  • 4 Base and TopLayers
  • 0.2 Layer Height
  • 0.4 Nozzle
  • Support:
    • Base Plate with Support
    • Bracket, Bridge, Lever, Small Base Holder without support
    • Medium Base Holder should be supported on the topmost part of the ring
• Cushion
  • Print with a TPU  (e..g. https://www.dasfilament.de/filament-spulen/tpu-1-75-mm/418/tpu-v2-filament-flexibel-1-75-mm-weiss-800-g?c=27)
  • 2 Shell Layers
  • 3 Top Layers
  • No Bottom Layers (this ensures that the bottom is soft)
  • Gyroid Infill
  • 30% Infill

Build Instructions

• Optional: Glue the felt to the TPU cushion and the Base Holders
• Position the Base Plate on/in your box and use it as a drill guide (a would recommend a 3.5mm drill)
• Melt the inserts into the Brackets and the Base Plate
• Attach the Bracket to the Base plate using the countersunk head screws
• Attach the Base Plate to your box using the other M3 screws
