Description

The latest 3D-designed Sewing Edge Ruler is a tool tailored for utmost precision and flexibility in sewing projects.

Engineered with metric measurements, it features detailed markings for both centimeters and half-centimeters, catering to the nuanced needs of tailors and craft enthusiasts alike. Its design includes an edge that allows for accurate measuring directly from the edges of fabrics, enabling users to achieve perfect seam allowances and hems from the outset of their material.

Additionally, this ruler is versatile, equipped with a central sliding guide that facilitates measuring from various points within the fabric, not just the edges. This feature is particularly useful for adjustments and alterations requiring measurements from specific internal locations.

This ruler promises longevity and measurement ease on all fabric types, making it an essential tool for any sewing kit.

Given its precision tool nature, a well-calibrated 3D printer is required.

Difficulty▰▰▱ MEDIUM
Nozzle Size0.4mm
Layer Height0.2mm
Infill Density20% or more
Infill PatternCubic
Wall Line Count2 or more
Wall OrientationOutside To Inside
SupportsNO
MaterialPLA or PETG
Print OrientationSTL orientation

If you notice the sliding is tough, you can lightly sand the inner part with the saw teeth to adjust the resistance.

These are the current clearances implemented in the original slider:

There are also a version SliderTighter.stl with lower clearances to try if the slider is too loose. This will restrict the horizontal expansion of the two blades if the serrated teeth are not accurate:

Too loose, bad. Too thigh, bad. 😜

Printing from Outside to Inside will improve dimensional accuracy. Adjacent walls generally push each other a bit, especially if the wall line width is smaller than the nozzle size. The wall that gets printed first will have been solidified and then doesn't get pushed as much. Therefore printing the outer wall first will make your outer wall be in a more accurate location. You can try Inside to Outside if you want or if you notice it will improve clearances and a smooth slide for your particular print. Each printer is a different world 😁

    • Added a new version of the slider with lower clearance (thanks @StephenJ_315835 for the comment)

Depending on the filament material, more flexibility or rigidity can be achieved. Feel free to experiment with different materials.
