This is a storage and carrying solution for embroidery/cross stitch thread on standard bobbins. It consists of multiple trays that stack on top of one another and clamp together with a lid and handle on top. There are several different tray configurations so you can customize it to your number of bobbins and include storage space for other related items (e.g. needles).
- The hinges are all modeled to use 20mm M2 bolts as the hinge pins, with a hexagonal slot on one side to hold a nut. I originally chose these just because I had a bunch laying around, but they should be pretty easy to find in bulk for cheap. I ordered a set of 100 off Amazon for $7 and confirmed they work just as well (bolts link, nuts link).
- The basic tray fits 64 threaded bobbins upright so you can easily read any labels. The other options hold fewer, with openings of various sizes and configurations to use for storage. I also included a version that's just fully open inside so you could theoretically use it to store whatever you want.
- I also modeled/included a few “Space Fillers” which are just small boxes to fill up any extra spaces and keep the bobbins from falling over/moving around if you don't have enough to fill a slot. There are 2, 3 and 4 slot versions included.
- I tested/printed everything in PETG. PLA would probably work fine, though I don't know if the clips/hinges would hold up as well to the repeated stress.
- The base model has slots that are 36mm wide which fits the bobbins my wife has. If yours are slightly wider, I also included an adjusted version which has 39mm slots instead.
