Description
This simple mount enables you to hang a microphone under a ceiling or balcony using a microphone clip equipped with a standard 5/8 inch, 27 threads per inch hole. Conversely you can use on a table or other horizontal surface. Use on a vertical surface is not recommended since there is not a method to stop the microphone clip rotating under gravity.
The clip can be attached to the surface using 4mm dia wood screws. As an option, a 20mm wide strip of foam tape can be used between the mount and the surface to help damp vibrations.
The thread is fine and needs a good quality printer. However, the metal threaded insert in microphone clip will help clean out the thread - must make sure you don't cross thread it!
Update
Version 2 added. This includes a provision for a printed locking ring so that the mount can be used on a vertical surface with most reasonable weight microphones. The V2 mount is longer with a higher percentage of thread to accommodate the ring.
Before assembling the ring and the mount, use a microphone clip with a metal insert (preferably brass on the mount to clear the threads and a metal reducer insert on the ring. When you screw the ring onto the mount, use lubricant - I used a smear of washing up liquid. It will be tight the first time you screw it on. After that it should ease up.
