Description
Hello team,
Just for a bit of fun I threw together this model for a Nissan Skyline R32 GTR (BNR32) wheel cap to suit the factory wheels. It's possible to purchase original parts however they are quite expensive, so if you happen to be looking for something just to fill the void, but not wanting to drop a few hundred dollars on caps, this is a good solution :-)
I've designed this model more or less exactly the same as the original caps although slightly optimised for 3D printing, making use of a 30 degree chamfer as opposed to a fillet for example.
The centre plaque is similar to the OEM model and allows you to make whatever plaque you prefer. I went with the classic Skyline emblem debossed. Affixing the plaque to the cap can be done with some super glue and it'll hold quite well.
For this example I printed in black Australian Made PETG (Aurarun), and the fitment is basically perfect, snaps beautifully into place on the factory wheel. In the pictures this is the “VSPEC” wheels, but it'll also suit the standard BNR32 wheels too.
With regards to printing I would suggest using supports on the build plate only to support the plaque recess, infill of 15% and 5 perimeters so that the cap and the retention clips are effectively solid so they have a bit of strength. For the plaque you can really change the settings to whatever you prefer to get the level of quality that you're after. For me this was more of an experiment so it's on the most basic speed settings, nothing fancy.
There is sufficient flex in the retention clips to insert and remove the caps, so no need to worry about them snapping when adding or removing them. I'll attach the Prusa Slicer file and step files.
Hopefully this is useful for somebody out there :-)
Regards from Australia
