Volvo Heat Shield Nut (981495)

The studs for the muffler heat shield on P2 series Volvos (V70II, S60I, S80) corrode due to the influence of moisture, the contact between aluminium and steel, temperature and of course age. The result is that the original plastic nut 981495 does not hold anymore or at least not securely.

This is where this model comes in: instead of being screwed onto the stud, it is just pushed on the stud (depending on the degree of corrosion :D ) and secured with a zip tie. The residual threads on the stud make sure the plastic nut will not fall off and the zip tie is an additional insurance.

Versions

“Tall” - The “waist” of the nut is 7mm high, so you can either use a very beefy zip tie or two for redundancy. The height is 15mm.

“Short” - The waist is 5mm high and the upper part of the nut is 1mm shorter, so the nut is 4mm shorter overall. The height is 11mm.

Print Settings

• Use a temperature resistant filament like ABS, ASA, PA, PC(CF), …
• VERY GOOD LAYER ADHESION IS REQUIRED!
• With three outer perimeters, the important parts of the perimeter is completely filled. The actual infill in the center part is not incredibly relevant for the strength.
• No supports are required when you have good parts cooling and print the perimeters from inside out. The shoulder can be printed “in the air”. Try it :)
