Bunnies!

Just in time for Easter

This collection of models contain the same Interlocking Bunny Pattern. It's designed from scratch with 3D printing in mind and can be placed on pretty much anything you can imagine. I've supplied the base models in .STEP and .STL formats such that you can all play around with it. To start the ideas I've applied this pattern to various designs which are made available here such as: coasters, tiles, models, keychains, lithophane, postcards, ...

How to print

Since all of these models are mostly form-over-function you can print these models with your favorite 3D printer, from your favorite filament, while using your favorite slicer settings.

These models are relatively straightforward and easy to print. If you're not familiar with slicing the models yourself then these models are great for starting to learn this. When you're already a bit familiar with the slicing software then here are some tips to help you along and to achieve some of the results you see in the pictures:

General
  • These models can be scaled freely.
  • Use the provided .STEP files to customize the model to your liking.
  • I've added two .gcode files for the coaster and the lithophane, but highly recommend everyone to slice it themselves within their slicer of choice. It's a great skill, it's fun to learn, and these models will make it easy for you to get to know your slicer software.
Coaster
  • Someone will place hot drinks on this coaster at some point! (it's a coaster after all…) so make sure to use your most heat-resistant material and bump up the infill a bit to prevent instant collapse the first time something slightly hot touches it.
  • Using two different colors (by utilizing a color-swap in your slicer) you can get a really nice contrast.
Tiles
  • I made two tile sizes: small and large. Small is about 25mm or 1" in width and large is double that.
  • When kept unscaled the tiles will interlock nicely without any stress or strain.
  • The tiles can even stand on their feet.
  • Using different colors to make a greater pattern would look cool.
  • You could use these tiles as swatches for your various filaments.
  • If you want to print these as cheap and quick as possible: choose the option with 1 or 0 eyes, then print only bottom layers and perimeters: set infill to 0% & set top layers to 0. This will print quickly and give you a tile that's hollow on one side, but when tiling only 1 side will be visible.
Model
  • The MEGA model is not only larger than the large tile, but it's also thicker.
  • Print at your own risk if you really love bunnies or if your parents won't get you a bunny.
Keychain
  • Same as the large tile model. You can scale it if you'd like to have a little less bulk on your keys, but then again… you want to show people that you like both bunnies and 3D printing, right?!
Lithophane / postcard
  • Make sure to use a low layer height. I used 0.1mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle. This lower layer heights gives more layers and a more consistent translucency of the entire piece.
  • Print it in multiple colors for a cool effect with or without lighting.
  • Place a light behind it for the lithophane effect, or put it in a standard 100x150mm (4"x6") photo frame, or even send it to a bunny lover in your life via snail mail.

Wall art

  • Use the holes of the keychain models for your screws/nails and combine them with the tiles to make a piece of art for your walls.
  • Vary heights of tiles while keeping other dimensions the same for cool height differences.
  • Use varying colors to break up the pattern even further.
  • Glue the tiles together on the back.
  • IDEA for remix: backplate that would remove the need to glue tiles to keep them together.

Looking forward to see your makes and customizations using this pattern. If you have any ideas for models, but perhaps lack the time or 3D-modeling skills then let me know and I might be able to make something
