The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter jet from the Cold War era. Designed for the US Air Force, it became famous for its incredible speed, exceeding Mach 2. However, it was also a single-engine aircraft, which made it less forgiving for pilots than some other fighters.
The Starfighter saw use by many NATO countries, including a modified version for the German Air Force, the F-104G. This variant had a rough introduction, with a series of crashes in the 1960s that led to safety concerns and a public scandal. Despite this, the Starfighter remained in service for many years, eventually being retired in the late 20th century.
In my childhood I grew up nearby the Eggebek MFG 2 Naval Air Station, so the sight and the sound of the F-104 Starfighter is more than familar to me.
The photograph shows a F-104 from MFG 2 - the printable parts are neutral with no additional signs.
Update 05/2025: added the cockpit sections with gun muzzle (port) and without (starboard) and reworked the radar section. Added blueprint top and frontview.
