Description
Solar finder for ZWO Seestar S50. Get ready for the April 8, 2024 total solar eclipse!
This simple device can help you align your Seestar (with appropriate solar filter) towards the sun. If auto-tracking fails to find the sun, you can manually slew it to the correct orientation.
This snaps into place on top of the Seestar. There are eight little nibs along each side that fit down into the diagonal slots on the Seestar. It is a tight fit on the inside and you might need to wedge it in there with a little force to get it on and off, but once the nibs find the slots, there is clearance.
The main solar finder body should be printed vertically with the crosshairs and hot shoe features on the build plate. You won't need supports as it is tapered towards the top where the light hole is. You can cut a piece of paper using the 43mm cutting template using a razor knife and the paper will fit in between the body and cap. I found that thinner paper works better - parchment paper works perfectly. The thin wings that grip the Seestar might come loose from the build-plate. You could use a raft or brim, but I found if I cleaned the build plate with alcohol right before printing and up build plate 5C higher than normal, then it would hold. I've included seven different tolerances for the cap in case your settings are too tight or too loose.
