Description

I was approached with a request to design a battery adapter that would let someone use 4 "LR44" batteries in place of the semi-available "4LR44" battery, because evidently the 4LR44 is hard to get in some places. I don't normally do requests, but this was easy enough, and was basically a remix of a different adapter I had already designed for an old mercury battery for my Yashica Electro 35, so I went ahead and whipped this up.

This battery adapter should be usable in basically any camera/device that calls for the 4LR44 battery. I know Canon made a few cameras (A-1, AE-1 Program, etc) that took it. The Pentax 6x7 (and variants) also takes this sort of battery as a replacement for the discontinued PX28. I'm sure there are many others too.

The trickiness of this adapter is that some devices (cameras) battery compartments are super-duper snug, so there isn't a lot of room for tolerances. Adding to the trickiness, the Canon line of cameras that may use this adapter have notoriously fragile battery doors (that tend to break if you sneeze funny), so I had to take that into account as well. YOU SHOULD TOO!!! USE THIS ADAPTER AT YOUR OWN RISK! :D

I've printed and tested this in my Canon A-1, AE-1, and my Pentax 67, and it worked fine for me in all three. To see actual prints of my design, check out the “Makes” tab (I print basically everything I design.)

There is a reminder label of "LR44" and "(4x)" embedded into one of the ends of the adapter, so you can remember why you printed this in the first place.

There are polarity markers ("+" and "-") on the side/wall of the adapter. Those aren't strictly required, since the adapter is identical on each side, but they are intended to be a reminder that all four LR44 batteries need to be put into the adapter in the same direction/orientation. Plus, once the batteries are in, it's handy to know which side is positive when you are placing the battery in the device that uses it.

The rectangle hole in the back wall is there to aid in battery removal. The batteries are (necessarily) fit in tight, so to make removing them easier, just grab a toothpick or small key or whatever, and poke them out using that hole in the back. Seems silly, but believe me it is super handy being there.

Print Settings

Printer: Any (I used the Qidi X-one2)

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0.1

Infill: 20%

Filament: Any PLA or PLA+ (I used GST3D PLA+)

Filament Color: Any (I used red here)

Model Orientation: Long side on the print bed, with the battery opening facing up

Notes:

This might print at 0.2, but I wanted it to be a bit finer since it is relatively small and the walls are thin (though I didn't use the "print thin walls" setting myself, it might be a good idea to try that)

Post-Printing

After printing, you'll need to add some wire/metal for electrical continuity. See project pics for what I did the first time around, though there are a few alternatives you could try. Just use the continuity holes that I designed to feed whatever metal you want through each end
