Description
While installing higher quality sliding door rails and hangers, I found that the actual closet opening onto which the rail attaches, was not level – the left side was about 0.25 inches / 6.35mm higher than the right side. This caused the doors to ‘wander’ and not stay closed on one side. To be able to mount the rail and have it level, I measured the length and width of the rail and designed a long shim that fit the length of the rail. Then I divided it into five printable sections. I added some notches so that the sections would align with the adjacent sections. I hot glued the sections to the top of the rail, just to hold them in place. If a screw would hit part of the shims, I simply cut away the shim plastic to free up the screw holes. I installed the rail as normal with the mounting screws. The shim worked great, and by printing with white filament, it is hardly noticeable.
NOTE: This shim set fits a specific width and length of rail, and with a specific amount of rise. The chances of it matching another rail or closet opening are somewhat unlikely. I included this model more as an example of a solution to closet openings that are not level.
