Hole to Outlet Cover Adapter - For 2 1/4" hole in Drywall

My house had a 2 ¼" diameter hole in the wall where some old landline phone equipment was installed or accessed. The equipment was removed, leaving a hole. I didn't want to bother with drywall patching and then painting, so I designed this adapter that fits in the hole (it requires that a little drywall be cut or drilled away for the screw receiving wings). There are clips that screw into the adapter, from the backside. The clips are pulled against the back of the wall, securing the adapter. Then, a standard blank faceplate can be installed.

Obviously, this adapter will only work for a specific size hole. I have posted this design as a ‘proof of concept.’ The design worked. It is a little tricky to screw in the clips, but once the screw engages in each clip, it is fairly easy to tighten them.

Print one adapter and four clips (maybe 5, in case you drop one in the wall while trying to insert the screw. 

Note:     The flat face of the clips faces forward toward the adapter.

You will also need 4 screws and an outlet faceplate.
