Description

I needed a simple perfboard holder and a method of holding the electronic components in place while I soldered them, so designed this.

I printed mine in PETG with standard 0.2mm quality settings  and with variable adaptive layer height  set to 0.5 to keep the dimensions accurate. The round parts will need supports.

To assemble, insert the holder in the legs with the slot vertical and then twist to horizontal. The legs simply push in the base. Same method is used for the helper, then push on the arm.

To make the arm heatproof I extracted the solidified silicone from a used silicone sealer tube nozzle, cut off a section and superglued it to the tip of the arm. I tested it for heat resistance and it did well with no sign of scorching after using it to hold up a bare wire, with the soldering iron applied at 330C for 40+ sec. I expect using fresh silicone would also work, but you'd have to wait for it to dry/cure.

To stop it all sliding on the bench I used 4 8mm x 1.3mm stick on flat round rubber feet on each of the bases. https://www.bitsboxuk.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=185_190&products_id=3230

As the holders are separate, you can move them to a convenient part of the perfboard to make soldering easier. for bigger projects you could even use four to hold the perfboard.  If you do accidently touch the soldering iron on the holder the part can easily be reprinted and replaced. The pefboard can also be angled by twisting the holders.
