Adjustable SolderPipe Redux- for One-Handed Soldering

If you already have the SolderPipe by Plantago Labs, you only need to download the “Baseplate,” “Slideplate” and “PTFE Pipe” files. The other files are unaltered from the original.

This model prints without supports. 

I was rather pleased with the adjustable section of this. It's a simple design, and doesn't get in the way.
If you're left-handed, you will want to mirror the slideplate and baseplate pieces. 

To construct:
- Press-fit the M3 nut into the slot for it in the baseplate. I did need to use a gunsmith's hammer to tap it in, but it didn't take much force.
-There is a raised section on the bottom of the slide plate that fits into a groove in the baseplate. Slide the slideplate into the base-plate. Lightly screw in an M3x6 or x8mm screw through the top of the slot in the slide-plate to fix it to the baseplate. 
-Using two small zip-ties, affix the assembly to your soldering iron. Snip the free ends of the zip-ties.
-Put the solder-pipe into hole in the slideplate-piece. It helps to have it rotated ~90 degrees off-set, then push as you rotate it into place. 
-Slide PTFE tube into the pipe. Use a small allen-wrench to adjust it's position.
-After mounting the spool and solder as per Plantagolabs original design, feed a bit of solder through the assembly. Loosen the M6 screw and adjust the slide-plate until the solder naturally ends roughly aimed at the tip of the soldering iron. 

Pros:

Adjustable length
Feeding solder is easier on the fingers
Extended sections give more room to adjust the setup on the soldering iron.
Thicker tube makes it more durable
Shorter tube can now be printed standing up on the more “angled” face without supports. 

Cons:
I did need to go back to using a nitrile glove for friction to feed the solder, even with the PTFE Tube. I'll keep trying to improve this. Still, I think the improved ergonomics is a plus.


The PTFE tube does not need to fully extend through the entire length of the pipe, just enough that the solder doesn't contact the pipe itself.

3 Small Zip-Ties
1 M3 Hex-nut
1 M3x6mm or x8mm screw
1 section of PTFE tube
1 soldering iron (otherwise, you don't need to print this)
