Description
[v3.1 description]. This has become a bigger project. Â There are about 50 enhancements now, and I vow to stop tweaking it NOW. Â See the v2.0 description below for why and what I originally modified, but another pass has finally made me happy with it's completeness. Â The village has all the roofs, the towers are all there and look right, the Abbey is the way I remember it including the bridge over the Grand Degree, with some nice little punchouts to help me paint in doorways. Â The v3.1 print at 75% is beautiful (sliced at 0.12). Â [Not all the pictures are on here yet.] There's a new Blender screenshot where ALL the additions and subtractions have been highlighted.
Â
[v2.0 description] After painting a 50% model and badly printing a 70%model, I was frustrated with the amount of inaccuracies in the model. Â I decided it needed improving, so I compared maps and satellite views and a nice 3D model on Sketchfab. Â I found and made 15+ enhancements in Blender. Â See the photos and/or the differences list.
I also sliced the model at 0.16 instead of 0.20, which made a nice difference, and printed at much slower speed to improve accuracy on some of the small details. Â The final print took 30 and a half hours, but was well worth it.
There was still one pile of rocks that I thought I fixed by the island entrance, but accidentally left a small hole in it so it printed wonky. Â I fixed it in the model, but cannot be sure until making another full-sized print (actually 70% is as big as my printer will fit). Â I need more filament for this big a print.
Â
Note, I am selling hand painted 3D prints of Mont St Michel on my Etsy store (https://ABitMoreAdventure.etsy.com/listing/1714400077). Â Currently I have the original models painted, but as I sell out, I will be replacing them with these new versions. Â If you want to buy a new version, put it in the special requests field on the order and I'll make you one. Â I sell 25% and 50% so far, but will hopefully add the 70% size soon (I plan to keep the prototype for myself though).
See full differences list below and in the modifications list file and in the pictures. Â In the pictures, the blue model is v3.1, the grey model is v2, and the Barbarian Flesh model is v1 (Sharkera's original).
