Description
This 223/556 25 round ammo box was designed in Fusion360 and printed on a Prusa Mk3s+ with eSun pla+. This was specifically designed to be a gift for my pap. I have 5 round boxes as well, but haven't posted them yet. 3mf and gcode files attached. I have spent a lot of time designing and tweaking this, I hope you like it.
General print settings: .4mm nozzle. 2 perimeters for each part. I used gyroid infill when not 100%. I'd recommend printing these two parts separately for best results. No supports are needed for either part. I used a brim on them, but mostly because I'm paranoid and saw signs of lifting on early test prints. I specifically used pla+ to take advantage of its ability to stretch more before snapping as opposed to pla, though pla would probably work just fine. I normally run the bed temp at 75, and nozzle at 215. The printing orientation of each part is upside down to their normal use.
There are 2 parts to this print: Inner and Outer
Inner: Each hole has a small tab inside that helps hold the round from rattling around, which is why I use pla+. Most of the time, it's strong enough to hold the round from falling out if held upside down. I don't know how long the tab will last before it's too weak, as I haven't used it that long yet.
Inner Specific Print Settings: I always print the tabs inside the holes with 100% infill. I use Prusa Slic3r, so I add a modifier to either change the infill % or the number of perimeters to make those tabs solid. I normally print at .15mm Quality and leave the rest of the part at a low infill, close to 15%. I played with variable layer heights for faster printing, but that caused some banding issues for me. I enabled ironing for topmost surface to have a smoother bottom of the print when completed, though not needed.
Outer: Designed with a .19mm clearance around most of the box, but with a .15mm clearance around the inner feet for a slightly tighter fit. I did have to use a razor to slightly shave some off for a better fit, but maybe that was because of the banding issues I've been experiencing.
Outer Specific Print Settings: I print the first layer slowly, as there are letters on the bottom when printing. I used .10mm layers to show greater details on sides of the box. Infill can be low, as this print is thin and mostly perimeters walls. I used 10%. I change the fill angle of the infill to 0 degrees so that it looks better with the font.
