Description
This is a very simple webcam mount that makes use of the already existing dust cover on the X axis stepper motor to provide a surprisingly stable mount for any webcam that has a tripod screw. See photos for assembly instructions.
It is geared to provide a reasonably good view of the first layer, and then to show you the top portion of the print as things progress.
The webcam I am using is a Nexigo N60 - which works, but is not ideal because it is fixed focus. If you do this, try to get a webcam with a manual focus lens so you can tune it to focus on wherever you feel is best. For just monitoring that the print is going normally though, the N60 works well.
For cable management, I suggest zip tying the cable to the existing wiring harness and running the USB cable beneath the printer, to the makerpad. That way, it appears to be pretty much part of the printer as it is, and the cable will follow the same path as the main wiring harness - allowing the gantry to go up and down with no risk of the cable interfering with the printing process.
