This beautiful model of the Forbidden Watchtower by Kijai has been remixed to enhance your game night with both it's presence and now it's practical use as a dice tower as well. Take the roof off and throw your dice into the tower and you'll find your dice roll at the base of this rocky hill.

How to print

Try using the attached GCODE (for MK4) or PrusaSlicer files to get the settings that worked for me the best, in general:

• 0.4mm nozzle 
• 0.15mm layer height (any lower or higher will make some overhangs a lot more difficult!)
• 2 perimiters
• 5-10% gyroid infill

Size

This remix is exactly 2x the size of the original to accommodate space for dice to go through. At this size it has been tested to fit dice up to 35mm (point-to-point).

With smaller or larger dice you might want to resize the model to better suit your needs. Don't forget to resize the cap of the tower as well.

Example: with a d20 of size 22mm diagonally you could probably be OK by scaling this model to just (100*22/35=) 63%. However, just to be safe I'd recommend rounding it up to 70%. 

Variations

There are two cap models just like in the original depending on which style you want your cap to be. I also noted that others had also made parts specifically for this watchtower. They can be used here as well because most of the geometry has remained untouched. Just be aware that this Dicetower is 2x the size of the original Watchtower. 

Improvements

At the moment due to the large height drop (lots of potential energy) and the general bounciness of both dice and the PLA plastic not all dice will remain in their intended pool, but some will shoot out like a cannonball leaving you with a new mini-game to find the dice!

This of course did not happen in the Blender simulations… so I was a bit surprised, but I'm thinking of small add-ons to either the 3D model or the printed model that will help slow down the dice a little bit while falling. Higher blocking walls will not help enough and will make both taking/reading dice more difficult as well as change the aesthetics. Tests still on-going - suggestions are always appreciated!

It's also a great model to test your painting skills! Or just print it in a nice stone looking filament, or use a triple color silk filament like I used in these pictures.
