Description
More easily printable versions of the iFixit Case Lid with some fancy configurable options.
This has been sitting in my drafts due to a missing image for over a year now, whoopsies.
The picture of the printed lid is what happens when you try to print the curved lid without well tuned support… The logos look great though!
My original onshape document can be found here: MTCS_0000_Case_Assembly
There are 3 main versions with several options configurable right from your slicer of choice!
The logo can be either debossed or printed multicolored, and the recycling logo can be adjusted to show one of ABS, PLA or PETG.
iFixit_Case_Lid_debossed
This version is the original case lid but with debossed text to make it more easily printable. The draft on the front will still make this a very difficult print, but doable with properly tuned in sollulable support material!
iFixit_Case_Lid_Flat_tapered
This is a flattened version of the original lid, which should be printable without any support at all (when flipped on its top).
The inner grating / grid is the same as the original.
iFixit_Case_Lid_Flat_flat
This is the same flattened version, but with the grating / grid also being flat and parallel to the inner surface.
When you open the model in Prusaslicer, you will notice lots of different parts.
There will always be one part for the actual lid itself. Leave this one be as is.
The iFixit logo is made up of two parts; the little X icon and the text.
The text will have a very thin (0.01mm) layer “glueing” the indivual characters together so that it doesn't show up as several individual parts. The slicer won't print this glue layer unless your layer height actually is that small, it will print the characters though.
To print the logo and text in their own colors or material, simply change the extruder to your liking.
If you want to deboss the logo and/or text, change the part type to negative volume. Simple as that!
Then there are three additional parts for the ABS, PLA and PETG recycling material texts, again with some glue-layers to keep each text as one part.
To “select” one of them, either delete the others, or change their type to modifier.
As a sidenote, to actually print the recycling text and logo you will need a maximum layer height of 0.20mm!
