Choc Chip Muffin Box

Howdy, wonderful people!

Yes, it's time for more questionable food choices! Though, are choc chip muffins really questionable? You could always choose your filament wisely and just say they're blueberry muffins instead! :D

Modelling these kinds of things is always a fascinating process to look back on, because ultimately it's all about finding those essential features that identify the thing in question. In this case, the tricky bit was the muffin top. Early versions had much more convex shapes, which in all fairness is the shape of many actual muffins but when it gained a slight concave aspect the muffin top just looked so much more muffiny.

The choc chips print separately to the muffin top and screw into place. They're a tight fit around the top, so they can be somewhat troublesome to remove again should you want to, if, for example, you realise you haven't taken photos of the disassembled version for the post you're writing... :P

Print Description

This is a regular mode print designed for straightforward printing. However, it's highly recommended that you print the muffin top and the choc chips with a thin or adaptive layer height in order to make those curves as smooth as possible.

Print Dimensions

The muffin top occupies 83mm x 83mm on the print bed and is 39mm tall.

Supports Needed?

Not at all!  Designed for straightforward printing!

Scalability

This one should scale up reasonably well! Threads are good like that.

Print Orientation

All the parts print right-way-up.

Further Thoughts

Actually, there was one other aspect of this muffin that was surprisingly involved - placing the chocolate chips! It was far too easy to have them look too neatly arranged but just sticking them messily on top didn't look right either. In the end it was just an iterative process of nudging and rolling my char away from the screen and trying to gauge my "is that a muffin" reactions. Who knew chocolate chips could be so complicated? :P
