Description

I made a prototype of this months ago and it's been one of my most useful reloading prints so I decided to clean it up to share.  This screws on to the top of 1lb Hodgdon family powders (Hodgdon, Winchester, Accurate, etc) and allows you to pour powder back into the bottle with less of a mess.  Perfect for returning powder from your powder throw after reloading or refilling your 1lb bottle from an 8lb bottle.

I've included 2 versions of this.  Functionally they are the same.  The no-support version can be printed funnel side down, cap side up with no supports.  It's also much stronger at the connection between the funnel and the cap and provides additional room to grip when fitting to your bottle.

The other version is, IMO, more ascetically pleasing but will require supports and is not as strong as the no-support version.  If you struggle with removing supports or are just clumsy, I recommend the no-support version.

Print Settings:

  • Print upside down for the no-support version
  • Print either orientation for the other version with supports (standard for right side up, tree for upside down)
  • I used 0.20 line height for the one in the picture
  • This type of model is particularly prone to having ugly seams.  Unless you use scarf seams, you're either going to have a seam line or “zits”.  The print in the picture used random seams with scarfs in Orca slicer, which works pretty well.
  • Some people struggle with printing threads.  If you've never printed threads before you might want to isolate the cap and test print.  Generally they are not difficult but I use all walls when printing threads.  With 0..20 that's 7 walls on the cap section.  I split the settings so I'm not using that many walls for other areas.

Enjoy!
