Description

Hi folks,

I decided to share a Trident model I put together for a costume at Comic-Con this year.

The Trident is designed to attach to a standard ½" PVC (Schedule 40) Pipe . If you need to scale, I recommend doing so on the vertical axis so you don't mess up the mating.

Recommended Print Settings:

  • Print in PETG or another semi-flexible durable filament.
  • Add extra exterior walls, base, and top layers if this is going to be a functional prop.
  • This model prints best on its side, this avoids messy support interfacing.
  • Two rectangular strips of support are required inside the PVC slot.

Assembly Instructions:

  • Print the trident and fish out the support from the slot.
  • Post-process your print in a manner of your choosing (I use a combination of XTC-3D and Bondo smoothing putty).
  • Cut your PVC pipe to length, and roughly sand with 40-grit sandpaper, working your way up to 220-grit or similar. This will help the epoxy, and also help your paint stick to the pipe.
  • Apply epoxy to the inside of the slot, and also apply epoxy to the inside of the PVC pipe.
  • Slowly insert the PVC pipe into the slot, making sure to not let adhesive seep out of the hole.
  • After everything dries, you're now free to paint! The model in the cover photo chose to add leather cording to where the PVC meets the Trident to help break up the shelf there, and also added seashells/etc. Painted in Krylon Gold.

Happy costuming!
