Security Camera Mounting Kit and Cable Management

This is just a few pieces I made when installing a home security camera system - I wasn't really satisfied with the out-of-the-box mounting and cable management, so I chucked together some bits and pieces, and I'm happy with the results.

The system is a Swann DVR8-5580 with eight 4K dome cameras, so if your system is a different brand or package you will need to check measurements and probably adjust almost everything to suit your cameras and cables.

I printed it in PLA+, but given that some of the parts are in the roof space (the cable join box -see below) where it gets very hot in summer, I probably should have used ABS or something similar for that. That said, it all seems to be basically OK even after 4 years or so. 

In any case, there are three main parts:

Camera Mount Plates:

There are two parts to this, one to slot the dome camera itself into which sits on the outside of the eaves, and the other to go inside to roof. You can see these in the images attached - the white and orange disc-shaped parts. The white is for the outside (to blend in) and the orange is for inside the roof (to stand out if you need to find it again).

Together they provide a much more secure way to attach the camera to the eaves than just putting the provided screws through the eaves material. In addition to the printed parts, you'll need three 25mm M4 screws and matching nuts for this (the length of the screws needed may vary depending on how thick the material your eaves are made of is).

The camera fit is very snug, but you shouldn't need to give it much more than a firm push to get it seated, and with some gentle wiggling it will slide off again if you need it to.

Check the photos, which hopefully show how it goes together, and what it looks like when everything is mounted in place.

Cable Join Box:

Again, there are two parts here; the lid and base. This is simply a container to give some dust and moisture protection at the point where the power and video cables join.

As with the inside camera mount part, this is in orange so it's easier to spot in the roof. Note that the two ends are NOT the same, and are made to fit the specific cable ends on either side of the join - make sure you get it the right way around.

The friction fit is quite tight, but I recommend a cable tie around it to keep it secure - there is a slight notch for the cable tie to fit into so it can't slide off (though that's probably unlikely to happen even without the notch).

Power Distribution Box:

This is a simple box to tidy up the two 1-in-4-out power splitter cables which distribute power from the two power adapters to the eight cameras. I just didn't want a tangle of cables, and this solves that problem neatly.

I printed it in black because I wanted it to blend in - it's somewhat visible next to the Swann DVR box and I wanted it to look tidy.

The top and bottom are just friction-fitted together - it's secure enough that I haven't added any additional securing. I guess you could glue the top and bottom of it together if you wanted to, or just wrap an elastic band or cable-tie around it depending on how picky you are about the appearance.
