Description
This experiment was to see if I could make a mechanism that securely held chisels and plane irons without too much flex. It works well, but shorter chisels like the Dewalt one in the photos won't do much more than a micro bevel because the guide is too tall and the handle gets in the way. Socket-handled chisels would likely work fine. The next version will use smaller bearings to accommodate smaller tools/large-handled chisels. The only plane iron I have to test is from a Stanely 5 ½, so it's pretty long and is no problem.

Screw both jaws all the way to the center (they should align) then attach the knob. Turn the knob counter-clockwise to separate the jaws and install the guide pins through the knob opposite the knob. You may need pliers for that. The bearings screw in from the outside of each jaw.
