Description

Modular yagi parts. Assemble on a v-slot profile. Use your favourite material for the elements - alu stock, welding rods or metallic straws. Sizes from 2 to 5 in 0.5mm steps plus 6 and 7mm. Can be used to create cross yagis for LEO.

Notes:

  1. There is a small spacer in the middle of the active part, so the elements are placed dead center and won't short (you will have cap coupling though)
  2. Works on 20mm v-slot and compatible profiles. There is a small slice of a v-slot included, it might make sense to print one for portable use.
  3. Antenna elements are 17.5mm away from the profile.

BOM (undriven element)

  1. M4 screw
  2. M4 v-slot nut
  3. Round stock of choice in one of the given diameters

Assembly

  1. Put round stock through part
  2. Put nut in v-slot
  3. Add M4 screw, tighten the screw enough to grab the nut, but not enough to lock the part
  4. Position according to yagi design, measure, repeat
  5. Tighten down

BOM (driven element)

  1. M4 screw
  2. M4 v-slot nut
  3. 2 x M3 screws
  4. 2 x M3 nuts
  5. 2 x ring terminals 
  6. 2 pcs round stock for the active element

Assembly

  1. Place the M3 nuts. A small screwdriver might be required
  2. Place ring terminals and wiring to RF connector
  3. Add the M3 screws. Tighten them enough to grab the nuts, but not more.
  4. Add driven elements. 
  5. Tighten down driven elements
  6. Put nut in v-slot
  7. Add M4 screw, tighten the screw enough to grab the nut, but not enough to lock the part
  8. Position according to yagi design, measure RF specs, repeat
  9. Tighten down

Tuning yagis can be tricky. Try the dipole first and tune for SWR, then add reflectors and tune for Z. Caveat emptor: I have no idea what I'm doing.

Using a v-slot should allow some flexibility with existing accessories - think handle or armrest, a compass, phone holder, laser pointer, HT.
