Prusa MK3S+ IMX258 Motherboard Support

This is a support to mount  the 15x30mm motherboard of the IMX258 camera module on the extruder of the Prusa MK3S+.

Please note that there are many dimensions of the IMX258 motherboard on the market. This support is only compatible with 15x30mm ones.

Used in combination with the Prusa MK3S+ Nozzle Camera Mount for 8mm Squared Camera Module, this support is useful for using the IMX258 sensor as a nozzlecam.

Furthermore, this support is fully compatible with the MK3 / MK3S / MMU2S small Extruder Cooler by @KalleKnall.

Finally, I tested this model specifically to ensure that the ribbon cable from the camera module to the motherboard does not interfere with the printer's Z-axis screws.

File to print:

If you use the MMU3 by Prusa, you will need to print the files contained in the "With MMU3 Chimney-Base" folder. Otherwise, use the files contained in the "With FS-Cover" folder. In both cases, you will also need to print the contents of the "Lid" folder.

Suggested print settings:

Use the pre-sliced gcode files, or slice yourself using the 0.2mm QUALITY profile on the PrusaSlicer. Some supports are needed for some pieces.

I recommend using 5 walls for the support, to reduce vibrations on the IMX258 motherboard.

Assembly:

1. Insert 4 M2x3.0x3.6 heat set inserts into the spaces provided in the support for the IMX258 motherboard. Insert the inserts slowly and with low heat, because the walls into which they are inserted are not very thick and could deform. Make sure that the inserts are inserted a little beyond their depth, so that when you screw the IMX258 motherboard it does not touch the metal inserts, but the plastic that surrounds them, to avoid short circuits.
2. Screw the IMX258 motherboard into the support with two M2x4 screws, one at the top left and one at the bottom right. If necessary, place a piece of polystyrene or wood or something between the support and the motherboard input connector, to prevent it from stretching backwards and detaching from the motherboard when connecting the USB cable.
3. Screw the lid onto the support with two M2x8 screws.
4. Insert 2 M2.5x4.0x4.6 heat set inserts into the FS-Cover or Chimney Base, and replace the metal insert from which the filament enters with the original one from the FS-Cover or Chimney Base you already have.
5. Replace the cover on the extruder with the one into which you inserted the inserts in the previous step.
6. Screw the FS-Cover holder or onto the Chimney-Base using two M2.5x6 screws.
7. After positioning the nozzle cam, hold the excess ribbon cable in place with a cable tie, passing it between the holes in the lid.
