MotoLoRa - The Hackers Inspired Heltec V3 Meshtastic Node Enclosure

Hackers was the ultimate cyberpunk cult 90's movie, filled with all the coolest tech the time had to offer, including those awesome pagers seen throughout the movie! I'm sure Cereal Killer and Zero Cool would have loved Meshtastic and been all over these awesome Heltec V3 LoRa Nodes if they had been available!

Well… I guess it's time for a mashup! HACK THE PLANET!

Printing the enclosure is pretty straightforward - you have two main pieces. The top and bottom of the case. These are held together with some M3 screws and a couple of heat-set inserts. 

This is not a standard enclosure - it has extra functionality including a power override and extra buttons for sending canned messages. There should be enough room inside the enclosure to include a small GPS module, buzzer or vibration motor if you wish.

What you will need:

• Heltec V3 LoRa Node, flashed with Meshtastic
• 3D printed parts
• Flat LoRa antenna (or external antenna)
• 3.7v 2000mah Lipo battery (max dimensions 61mm x 40mm x 8mm)
• Latching push button switch
• Tiny tactile switch x 4

How to Print…

I reccomend printing in PETG just because you'll probably be taking this out rollerblading through New York city while running from the copys or something. Personally I chose transparent PETG to allow the device LEDs to shine through. The model does have some nice curves so I personally chose to use 0.1mm layer heights, but this part is up to you.

Case bottom: 

Print it flat on the build plate. No supports required (the holes on the bottom are nicely chamfered. Be sure to crank up the walls so it's nice and strong!

Case top: 

Unfortunately, this needs quite a lot of support. If you are lazy, you can exclude supports from inside the screw holes using the paint on support functionality - set it to "smart  fill" and right click inside the holes and PrusaSlicer will skip putting supports in the holes. As with the bottom, crank up the walls. Once printed and the supports are removed, melt four m3 heat-set inserts into the bigger holes (you can skip this if you prefer to just screw directly into the plastic).

There are two versions of this model, depending on whether you want to make it with an internal or external antenna.

This should print flat on your build plate without an issue.
