Description
PFM-1 (противопехотная фугасная мина) is a Russian scatter anti-personnel mine. There is also a PFM-1S version, but it differs only slightly.
The model consists of two parts connected by a thread (body and head).
The head piece is modelled to resemble the real mine interior as closely as possible.
In reality, the mine would be made of flexible plastic/rubber. The mine works on the principle of hydrostatic pressure as it is filled with liquid explosive. When you squeeze the thicker part of the mine, the internal pressure increases and this activates the float in the detonator. It aligns itself in the axis of the fuze and allows initiation.
It was often mistaken for a toy because of its appearance.
The victims are often children. The mine has been used in Afghanistan and Ukraine.
The individual mines are arranged in opposing order in the bunker and are thrown en masse, for example from a helicopter.
As this print is made up of only two parts, it is easy to verify the accuracy of the models without printing. Therefore I will put this model straight into the database without actually printing it, which I normally insist on.
