Description

The caster wheel on my Broil King BBQ broke in two so I modelled and 3d printed a new body for it. I was able to salvage the lock parts (lever arm, spring, lock shuttle), wheels (including the shaft) and the swivel pin so the body of the caster was all that needed to be replaced.

If you are in need of a replacement for a similar caster this may be helpful to you.

Printed mine in a standard black PLA at 0.15mm layer height, 3 perimeters, 50% infill with a 0.6mm nozzle. This created an incredibly rigid part that will likely last longer than the original casters. I also included a brim to prevent the thin edges of the rim from curling off the bed while printing, though this may not be necessary.

NOTES:

  1. there is a thin wall included in the stl that supports the outer edge of the rim that goes over the wheels on either side. This is meant to be printed as a single perimeter piece that can be removed once the print has completed to remove the need for supports.
  2. the holes for the wheel shaft and the pin that holds the lever arm for the locking mechanism may need to be drilled out to accept the metal hardware. I used a 9/32" and a 1/8" drill bit to clear each hole respectively.
