Description

The Nick.CNC mid motor conversion allows you to convert your Traxxas 2wd vehicle to a modern mid motor layout for better handling. All the files needed to print and CNC cut your parts are included. Don't have a CNC? You can send the step files to a cutting service like sendcutsend and they'll cut the parts for you, but you'll still need to countersink the holes.

Important Information

  • Five different transmission configurations available:
    • Standup Transmission - better suited for low grip conditions. Files specific to the standup configuration are indicated with a “SU” prefix.
    • Laydown Transmission - better suited for high grip conditions. Files specific to the laydown configuration are indicated with a “LD” prefix.
    • Laydown 272R Transmission - same as above, but can use the 272R differential
    • 5 Gear Transmission - better suited for very high grip conditions. Files specific to the 5 gear transmission are indicated wth a “5g” prefix.
    • 5 Gear +5 272R Transmission - same as above, except the diff height is raised 5mm and uses the 272R differential
  • Suggested thickness for CNC cut parts
    • Chassis 2mm to 3mm
    • Shock Towers 4mm
    • Motor Plates 2mm to 2.5mm
  • All printed parts are designed to work with my chassis and will not work with the stock chassis or any aftermarket chassis
  • Unless otherwise indicated, transmission cases are designed to use the magnum 272 internals. 
    • Ball diffs, Exotek and STRC top shafts,  and 272R idler gears all confirmed to fit in 272 version transmission cases
  • Rear Arm Mounts Required
    • Nitro Rustler rear arm mounts
    • Alternatively, printed arm mounts will work. Suggested filament - 72D TPU
  • Adjustable turnbuckles are required
  • Designed to use the Team Associated B6 series rear wing mount
  • The transmission cases have reliefs designed into all bearing and axle recesses. Use your slicer to paint the Z-seam onto these reliefs to prevent z-seam blobs from affecting bearing fitment.
  • Most printed parts have survived multiple track days without breaking even when printed with basic PLA
  • Front bulkhead and rear arm mounts require a tougher filament. I use and recommend a 72D TPU
  • The battery posts are sized to work with the Protek LCG batteries I use. You may need to scale the height of the post up or down depending on how tall your battery pack is.

Disclaimer

All files are sized for the screws/bearings/fitments/clearances/etc. to work on my machine with my filament. You may need to tweak your extrusion multiplier or even scale the parts in your slicer to account for the specifics of your machine and filament.

    • LRC - Low Roll Center (stock Traxxas geometry)
