Description
This project combines concepts from both the marvelous Modular Mounting System by HeyVye (on Thingiverse), the innovative Tripod Phone Stand by DieZopfe, and my own designs. I used the GoPro compatibility of the arms from the system from HeyVye, and added variations in arm design, thumb screws, nuts, and platforms. From the design by DieZopfe, I borrowed the threaded phone holder design with slider and tightening wheel. I added a second slider & tightening wheel, and a free Z-axis rotating functionality without a ball-joint.
Printer Brand: Artillery
Printer: Artillery Sidewinder X1
Rafts: Yes
Supports: No
Resolution: 0.2
Infill: 50-100%
Filament: Innofil3D PLA
Black, white, red, and yellow
Notes:
Slicing was performed using Ultimaker Cura 5.6.0. The photos included are prototypes of relatively low quality. However, all parts fitted well using the prototyping printing parameters.
To increase strength, I highly recommend to use up to 100% of infill density and stronger and more flexible filaments than PLA.
I used fine sandpaper (grit-100) to smooth the surfaces of the rotating parts. However, only minimal sanding was needed to aid in rotating action.
The models were designed using the ‘Not for commercial use’ free version of Autodesk Fusion 360.
I used an offset of -0.2 mm for parts, such as rotating bodies or threads, that have to fit together rather tightly, but should also be able to disconnect easily.
The Phone holder design can hold most phones, since the maximum reach of the phone clamp sliders is 108 mm. For large phones it is recommended to use a larger platform (no. 2 or 3), as a base for increased stability. Combining a platform (base, rotating body, and tightening ring), with (only) two arms and a phone clamp is highly recommended as well. The designs for the GoPro cameras are compatible with GoPro’s own mounting system. Finally, I did not add any printable M5x40 mm threaded bolts to the design, because (in my opinion) it is better to use metal M5x40 mm threaded bolts instead.
Goals
• To add free Z-axis rotating connectivity between a base (platform), arms, and phone holder.
• Design visual appealing, but sturdy and functional GoPro inspired and compatible arms.
• Adding M5 compatible threads to the 3-way grip ends of the GoPro inspired arms.
• Design thumb screws & knobs, compatible with standard M5x40 mm bolts and M5 nuts.
• Design (GoPro replacement) thumb screws (long & short), compatible with M5x40 mm bolts.
