Wine Charm Name Tags

Perfect for the holidays!

Simply customize in OpenSCAD and add the names of your guests to generate a unique wine charm for each person. Try these ideas:

• Let your guests take them home for a custom souvenir 
• Keep them all in a jar at your place for frequent guests. 
• Try asking guests their favorite author, band, or movie beforehand and use them as conversation starters.
• Print themes in pairs or groups and have people randomly select one as they come in the door to pick teams for party games.

If your printer is warmed up with the right settings, you can crank one of these out in under 5 mins so you won't have to worry about unexpected guests feeling left out!

Notes: 

I print these directly on the print bed with no issues.

You can create a file for each name but this system will attempt to do a reasonable job at laying out multiple names in a grid. Just make sure there is no overlap on longer names as the OpenSCAD language doesn't currently allow getting exact font metrics (it may be best to put longer names at the end of the list).

This is a good opportunity to try out your slicer's "Stop at Z" feature and switch out filament to a different color for the text.

How to create custom tags:

Option 1: Use the customizer app for this model on Thingiverse and download your own custom STL file.

Option 2: Create your own STL on your computer by following these steps (it's really not hard and it allows you to crank out new ones very quickly).

• Download and install OpenSCAD (it's free and open source)
• Open the .scad file
• Type your friends' names as a comma separated list into the “name input” field in the customizer window (with no spaces).
• Hit F5 to preview and then F6 to render… check that it all lines up and names don't overlap.
• Choose File→Export→Export as STL to get your own custom model. Save it and then feed it into your slicer.
