Description

I got fed up with my Nexus 4 phone sliding out of position on its WCP300 wireless charger, so I decided to build something to keep them together.

I didn't want something to hold the phone at an angle, as I never use it in that way; it's just there for charging. This dock holds the phone fairly loosely so it can be lifted in and out without binding.

The dock was designed using OpenSCAD, and is parameterized, so can easily be adapted for other phones and wireless chargers (as long as the charger is round!). Apologies for the scruffy code - I simply wanted to get a one-off job done. :-)

Instructions

Measure your phone and wireless charger, if you have something other than a Nexus4 and WCP300 charger. Also mount the phone on your charger so that it is charging reliably and then measure the distance from its base to the charger base. Add a millimetre or so to the phone and charger measurements, edit the OpenSCAD file to incorporate the new values and create an STL file. Note: the OpenSCAD code uses the word "puck" to describe the charger, simply because that's what it looks like!

If you do have both of these devices then simply slice the attached STL file and print. I used the following (but feel free to use whatever settings suit your machine and filament):

CuraEngine slicer

0.3mm layer thickness

20% infill

PLA

210C hot-end, 60C bed

Full support enabled

The STL files have 2 hollows underneath simply to save plastic - the support for these can be broken out after printing (but I didn't bother).
