6/8/2024 - PLEASE NOTE:  The  center2  STL file in the original upload was an incorrect version.  It was replaced today with a copy of  the proper file.  

If the original incorrect version is printed it can be modified to work by relieving the center opening sufficiently to permit passage of the  axle-spacer-10  component.

This is  a  large format wind spinner.  It has 10 sails and a 2 part tail fin assembly.  Most parts are joined using M3 cap head screws.  608 type bearings are used in the axle (2) and the stake mount (2).  The stake mount is sized to fit on ½" EMT tubing.  The sail and tail components require a large format printer (i.e. 300mm+).  They cannot be printed on a smaller machine.

Pre-assembly fitting and testing is recommended.  I normally use a scratch awl to slightly enlarge screw hole entrances and to check alignments.  Various screw lengths can be used successfully, but I recommend choosing a length to ensure at least 6mm of engagement.

The central hub is printed in two parts.  Each half has a recess for a 608 bearing.  The sails (Fin) are fitted into the assembled central hub and secured with M3 cap head screws.  I used an M8 75mm bolt as the main axle, passing through the assembled central hub, the 10mm axle spacer (axle-spacer-10), and screwed into the tail boom (tail-start) until tight.   

Once the hub and fan assembly is attached to the tail-start component, add the nose and tail-root components using M3 cap head screws.  With nose and tail-root installed, the rest of the tail boom can be assembled.

The tail boom consists of the tail-start and tail-ext components joined using M3 cap head screws and addition of the tail fin parts.  Fin1 and Fin2 comprise the tail fin.  They are secured into the tail-ext component with M3 cap head screws.

The stake mount assembly is sized to fit on a piece ½" EMT conduit.  A M8 60mm screw was used as the mount axle.  Insert the M8-60 through the stake-top component so the screw head is inside the recess.  Secure the screw into the stake-top component using CA glue (cyanoacrylate)  and the stake-mid component.  The stake-mid component covers the screw head and extends from the stake-top component.   After the glue has cured, attach the glued assembly to the stake-bottom component using CA glue.   The final step is adding the bearings to the stake mount assembly.  Place a 608 bearing on the M8 60, followed by the spacer30 component, then another 608 bearing.  The completed assembly is inserted in the bottom recess of the tail boom assembly at the time of final mounting onto the EMT tubing.

Fusion 360 source and .STEP files are included.

The tape-jig component was used to align pieces of reflective tape that I added to the sails.  I cut red and white reflective DOT marker tape into individual red and white pieces.  The tape was placed on the sails and trimmed to fit.   This is not a required step, I just wanted to see the effect when struck by headlights at night.
