Description

This part cooling duct improves on the stock design in two ways: 

  1. It concentrates the airflow from the part cooling fan into high velocity streams placed closer to the nozzle than with the stock shroud, improving cooling performance.
  2. The duct attaches with a quick disconnect, allowing for the duct to be quickly removed for nozzle and heat block cleaning or nozzle swapping.

It uses the stock mounting points and mounting hardware for the blower fan and fan shroud so swapping to this design is quick and painless. Total print time for the parts is roughly 1hr30mins on standard Prusa i3 Mk3 profiles.

Notes:

  • Supports are only required for the base of the duct. See .3mf file.
  • The optional led mount accommodates a standard 3mm domed led.
  • Recommended Materials: PETG or high temp resistant materials like PA or PC.

Simulation: I performed the flow simulation in SolidWorks with fan specs from the OEM's (Sunon) datasheet and a surface roughness of 50 microns to account for the surface quality of FDM parts. It shows an increase in flow velocity from about 5 m/s at the inlet to 20 m/s at the outlet.
