Description
This stand will firmly hold your balls for display purposes. There are 6 versions of different height and style. On the photo - left is “Polygonal”, right is “Smooth-Higher”.
Print in vase mode ("Spiralize Outer Contour" in Cura), no need for bottom for small balls. For large balls and 0.4mm nozzle you may add 3 bottom layers for extra rigidity. Model is sized for mini-football replica (diameter ~130mm). For larger or smaller balls - feel free to scale.
To help with ~60° overhangs use the following settings: PLA recommended, line width = nozzle diameter (i.e. 0.4 for 0.4mm nozzle). Layer height 0.1-0.15mm for 0.4mm nozzle, 0.15mm for 0.6mm nozzle. Max cooling, minimum layer time = 4 seconds (to help with cooling when printing "neck").
Scaled-up versions will benefit from 0.6-0.8mm nozzle for much more rigidity. Do not increase line width to be larger than nozzle width - it will significantly degrade overhangs.
Polygonal version have slightly steeper overhangs, so if you have issues with it - print smooth version. If your overhangs are still not looking good - scale Z axis only only to 125-150%. This will make stand taller, but easier to print.
