Description

In my opinion the coffee bean did not get as much attention on Thingiverse as it should get. Therefore I have created a coffee bean clip for you. It has magnets inside and will firmly close your already opened coffee bags. It also works for other bags you would like to keep closed.

The clip is powered by 3 Neodym magnets 12x12x12 mm (0.47x0.47x0.47 inches) on each side. Altogether you need 6 Neodym magnets. Of course the clip also works with 2 magnets on each side but the holding power will be less. In my tests I found out that 3 magnets on each side are perfect.

Some glue work is required after the print. There are insets for the magnets which make sure that the 2 parts of each side of the coffee bean are flush when you add them together. Please note the assembly instructions below.

Enjoy printing this object.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Flsun

Printer:

Flsun V400

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2 mm layer heigth

Infill:

20 %

Filament: RED PETG Coffee

Notes:

RED really has a PETG in color "Coffee" which looks great for this object.

All STLs are already in the correct orientation and should print without any problems. The bridging worked fine on my printer.

Post-Printing

Coffee bean clip assembly part 1

Put 3 magnets together so that they are in a row. Use 3 more magnets and also put them together in a row. Hold them firmly as shown on the picture. You should feel a strong attraction when you move the 2 sets of magnets together. If not turn them around.

Put the magnets down in a big distance, at least 30 cm. Do not change the orientation.

Please note: Neodym magnets must be kept away from the reach of children. They are insanely strong and a lot of force in the hands is required to safely handle them. Keep the magnets away from metal objects. Pay a lot of attention that there are no collisions between the magnets while you handle them. Neodym magnets are quite brittle and when a collision takes place they tend to beak into parts. The parts have very sharp edges. Please note the warnings of the shop or manufacturer where you buy the magnets.

Coffee bean clip assembly part 2

Without changing the orientation of the magnets put them into the insets of one part of the coffee bean. The flat sides of the bean parts must face each other. Keep a big distance between the objects to avoid a collision.

If you use only 2 magnets on each side, make sure they are positioned directly facing each other, e. g. both pairs in the middle of the inset or on one side.

Coffee bean clip assembly part 3

Add the other parts of each side of the bean.

Coffee bean clip assembly part 4

Make sure that the parts are completely flush when you press them together. If not, exchange the parts.

Coffee bean clip assembly part 5

For a test of the orientation of the magnets, firmly hold the 2 parts of the coffee bean together and approach them. You should feel a strong attraction.

Coffee bean clip assembly part 6

Put the parts aside in a big distance of at least 30 cm. Use plastic glue to glue the magnets into the insets and the top part of each side to the bottom part.

Let the glue dry and enjoy your coffee bean clip.

How I Designed This

The coffee bean clip was designed with Blender. The sculpt tool is perfect for this type of non-linear object.
