Description
This model provides a 1/4"x20 camera/phone/accessory mount point for the center console in late model (2020+ ?) Ford vehicles including the 2022 Ford Explorer.
The Mount Point is based upon @rymeyer's Mag Safe Phone Stand from Thingiverse.com, but it has been substantially modified for my use-case.
The ¼"x20 heat-set insert allows me to attach standard camera/video accessories and I've used a mono-pole to mount a trailer camera monitor without any modifications to my vehicle.
The Mount Point can be completely and easily removed and stowed when not in use - or, it can be converted to a phone mount by detaching the monitor only and replacing it with a phone holder (not shown).
It did take me a few iterations to get this exactly the way I wanted since any loose fitment forward or backward caused substantial sway in the monitor. Once I got rid of any play, though, I had to add a notch to help me remove it when nothing's attached. :-P
I must say that it does its job perfectly and I couldn't be happier with the results.
The rubber liner for this cavity does not need to be removed. (I also haven't tested without it in place.)
The Mount Point prints very easily, but notes are listed with the STL.
All you really have to do is use enough walls that you have sufficient plastic for the insert to bind to.
Here's a link to my OnShape Document should you need or want to make any adjustments:
I have only a single variable defined called “Hole_Size” which is by default configured to fit these ¼"x20 heat-set/sonic-set inserts from EZ-LOK:
One last note… I recommend printing in ABS so the plastic can withstand the elevated temps when the vehicle sits out in the sun.
To wit, an earlier print in PLA:
