Description

I needed a slimline way to carry some spare hex bits, so I knocked this up in FreeCad. It is designed to utilise a 5mm thick section of bicycle inner tube (Ranger Band, if you want to be all tacticool about it) to hold the two halves together.

I used a section cut from a tube for a 26" MTB wheel. It's just tight enough to hold things securely. I wouldn't suggest using a fatter tube, but you could probably use something from a thinner wheel and it would still work.

The hex cut-outs in the lid allow it to be used as a handle in a pinch. at 15% infill it probably won't take a large amount of force but initial testing feels strong enough for light duties. You may want to print the lid at a higher infill percentage if you intend to use it as a handle on a regular basis.

I designed this to fit some hex bits I have that are fitted with knurled collar. The lid can't slip down past the collar. I've included the FreeCad file so that you can remix it to fit with uncollared bits if you need to.

[EDIT] The Bit Keeper is now fully parametric if you are a FreeCad user. Everything is driven off the parameters spreadsheet, which is fully commented to allow you to make sense of it all. Have fun. If anything still doesn't make sense then drop me a line or comment here and I will try and assist.
