Description

Changed to make it more modular and waste less filament.
Experiment: I want night vision on my boat. There are a couple ‘reasonable’ consumer options - Black Oak Nitron XD and Sionyx Nightwave. Sure, they're great… and expensive.
However… an analog security camera with Sony Starvis sensor might be the ticket… CSVB Analog BIPRO bipro-s600vf12 from CCTV Camera Pros:

Camera has a Sony Starvis sensor. Starvis2 would be great, but again… is an experiment.
This camera is very well built too (I have purchased several < $50 amazon cameras… this is built much better than those)
There were a couple of reasons I did not want an IP Camera for this application.
1. My Garmin 8612 MFD supports BNC directly.
2. BNC is simple - 2 wires - 12v Power and Signal coax.
3. No lag/Realtime or nearly so.
Anyway, I was picking up an IR reflection from the hardtop of my boat, which was washing out the image… so, I need to mount it higher. The Turret Mount was born.
The model is pretty straight forward. Probably needs some tweaks, which will be added as discovered. Please feel free to contribute back.
Should be printed in ASA or other high temp / outdoor material.
Fasteners/Hardware:
(2) 8-32 heat set inserts for camera sleeve/mount. The should not contact the metal housing of the camera. Also, the screws for that pivot point should not contact the camera when torqued.
(2) 8-32 heat set inserts for camera turret with cup point grub screws to secure to mounting base.
Use 8-32 flat head phillips for through mounting the base to the hardtop (or whatever you need to do here…)
Issues being worked on (See V2 Freecad file):
Very difficult to get the camera mount into the turret base. I filed the 2 pivot point bosses on the camera to have a bevel at the bottom and then hit it hard to seat into the pockets. Modeled these boss tapers in V2.
- V1 Holes are 6mm where the turret bolts hold the camera/sleeve mount. - I printed bushings to take up the slack. Fixing in V2.
- Unecessary chamfers on pivot point pockets.
- Changed boss size from 25mm to 30mm, changed depth.
- v2 Base is less sloppy. ID it fits is 100mm, inner /grooved ID is now 100mm, may require slight sanding to fit…
To be done:
DONE - Reduce material usage, better print times, etc.
DONE - Add bosses/grub screws for positioning camera body in sleeve.
DONE - End cap and ‘hole’ fixes
Made it more modular.
